The WCB is committed to protecting young workers. Through our youth education services, we strive to promote safe work habits even before they enter the workforce.
Our Youth Education Consultant works with Island youth, educators, community organizations and government agencies to raise awareness about young worker safety, and to develop helpful resources and education initiatives.

Our Youth Education Consultant is available to come into your classroom to speak to students, to integrate workplace health and safety into their learning.
We have also developed a WHMIS 2015: Teacher Primer to coincide with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), which aligns Canada’s hazard classification and communication requirements with other countries. This will be helpful to you if you teach WHMIS as part of your course curriculum.

- Teachers/Educators: Provision of educational resources for teaching health and safety in schools and consultation on safety outcomes in the provincial curriculum.
- Youth: Safety presentations and workshops for youth in schools or in the workplace.
- Employers: Safety presentations and workshops and resources for employers and supervisors of young workers.
- General community outreach: Generating awareness on young worker safety at conferences, events and job fairs.
- Gathering resources for use in the workplace.
- Planning professional development for staff.
- Delivering on-site safety presentations and workshops to young workers.
Resources for Teachers
School teachers have the unique privilege of helping to shape our future workforce, and while students are busy acquiring skills and knowledge for life careers, they are already spending several hours each week in Island workplaces.Our Youth Education Consultant is available to come into your classroom to speak to students, to integrate workplace health and safety into their learning.

Workplace Health & Safety Lessons for Teachers (English/French)
No matter the subject you teach, we encourage all intermediate and high school teachers in the province to spend one class period discussing young worker safety.
